Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Shep discovered he had an ear for music at the age of 8. He learned to play the guitar by ear on his own and at the age of 12, he taught himself to play the piano.
In school he joined the orchestra and the band, and by high school he was winning awards playing numerous instruments including the viola, cello, bass and French horn. He made Allstate Orchestra twice and won most outstanding musician his senior year. He was awarded several academic and band scholarships. He attended Morris Brown College and majored in music. In his senior year he was awarded Most Outstanding Musician and had the highest academic average in his major.
Upon graduation, he began a long teaching career in music as a band and choral director, earning his organizations numerous awards and accolades.
He established his own studio and recorded several gospel CDs. He has been featured on various projects collaborating, performing and producing.
